Who needs to obtain the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TIS) certification?
Both domestic producers and importers have different legal responsibilities.
Domestic producers
1. A license from the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) must be obtained before manufacturing products subject to these regulations.
2. Products must pass testing according to specified standards and the production facility must be inspected.
3. Consistent quality control must be maintained, and inspections by officials must be permitted at all times.
4. The TISI mark may be displayed on the product and packaging once permission is granted.
5. The certification must be renewed every 3 years, along with an inspection by TISI.
Importers from foreign countries
1. It is necessary to check whether the imported goods are included in the list of mandatory Thai Industrial Standards (TIS).
2. Mandatory goods must be certified by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TIS) before clearing customs.
3. Submit an application for import certification along with test results from an accredited laboratory.
4. The importer is responsible for the quality of the goods as if they were produced domestically.
